Ken's Story
Ken has been offered a new job with a salary of around $130,000 a year. As part of his contract negotiations Ken has asked to salary package a new car. His current employer allows him to package his vehicle through a novated lease. Running the fully maintained car costs Ken $10,900 per year, which when packaged, reduces his taxable salary by $10,900.
His new employer does not allow packaging. After speaking to a packaging consultant, Ken has worked out that his take home pay will in fact reduce by $1,205. As Ken is happy at work, he decides to stay where he is.
